Is it a Westerner’s savior complex? Or something deeper? Martina helps Baaskaa, Baani, and Nassa toward achieving their own dreams, and despite mistakes, misunderstandings and confusion over many years, neither Martina nor the kids give up on each other as they grow into adulthood, and Martina grapples with her own past family trauma.
